Northumberland Classic Track & Field Meeting !
One of Morpeths newest recruits Alex Nesbit certainly did himself proud on
Saturday 3rd September, when he achieved a hat-trick of Under 15 Boys
victories in the Northumberland Classic Track and Field meeting held at Hexham.
He triumphed in both the 100m and 200m events in respective times of 12.70s and 26.50s,
and then went on to complete his dominance in the age group
by winning the Long Jump with a best of 4.30m.
Fellow Harrier Ria Fairnington, also a new recruit,
finished second in the Under 13 Girls 200m in 29.67s,
and won the Long Jump with a best of 4.07m.

Joe Robertshaw comfortably won the Under 17 400m in a time of 51.91secs.

She also finished 2nd in the Long Jump (3.99m) and 3rd in the 200m

Philip Winkler finished 2nd in the Under 15 1500m in a time of 4mins 28.40secs,
behind Middlesbrough's Jason Blackburn, who smashed the meeting record
with a time of 4mins 24.30sec. Blackburn had taken the bronze medal in the 800m

Other Morpeth placings in the 1500m were
5th Ryan Green 4:35.23;
6th Jarod Lewis 4:37.80;

whilst Morpeth Harrier Michael Dawson finished 8th in the C race of the 5000 metres in a time of 15-31.91.

Northern League Division 3
Morpeth Harriers' final Northern League match of the season
at Huntingdon Stadium, York on Sunday 14th August
saw some excellent individual performances,
but overall a disappointing turnout of athletes produced
the inevitable disappointing result with the club
finishing fourth of the five competing teams.
Once again the women's turnout was abysmal, although the three athletes
who did take part produced some quality marks.
Elaine Telford achieved her usual sprint double win
with times of 13.3 and 26.6 seconds and also extended
her range with a close up 2nd place in the 400 metres (62.6 seconds)
Earlier Elaine had competed in the Long Jump (an unfamiliar event to her)
and eventually sorted out her run-up to win with an excellent distance of 4.70 metres,
and she rounded off a busy afternoon with 2nd place in the B section of the Javelin.
Another busy athlete was Claire Reid who scored a comfortable
victory in the Discus with a throw of 36.62 metres, having earlier
finished 2nd in the Hammer, where her throw of 32.85 metres
broke her own club record set last season.
Claire also placed 2nd in the Shot with a putt of 10.41 metres
as well as finishing 4th in the B section of the Long Jump.
The only member of the club's much vaunted middle and long distance squad
to put in an appearance was Sarah Wilkinson who front ran her way
to a comfortable victory in the 3000 metres in a time of 10-05.6.
This is an area where the club should be scoring heavily,
but too few of the athletes with the talent are showing the necessary commitment,
and clubs with much slower athletes are being left to pick up the points.
Some of the absences in the Men's team were for the more
understandable reasons of injury and illness,
with prolific points scorer Angus Wood out with a
hamstring injury sustained at the last meeting
and team manager John Thompson plus
star sprinter Alan Selby both missing due to illness.
Jonnie Taylor led from the gun to easily win the Steeplechase in 9-04.0,
lapping the entire field including clubmate John Woods,
who finished 2nd overall in 11-32.3 to win the B section of the event.
There was yet another fine front-running performance
from a Morpeth athlete in the 5000 metres where Peter Newton
clocked 14-31.0 to take over 10 seconds off his personal best.
Such was his dominance that he finished a massive 2-51 ahead,
double lapping all of his opponents.
Young Joe Robertshaw bravely stepped up to fill the
sprinting breach left by Alan Selby's absence.
Joe had a comfortable win in his normal speciality,
the 400 metres, in 52.4 seconds and also won the 200 metres (23.7)
and finished a close second in the 100 metres (12.0).
Wayne Gedge returned to team action, picking up useful points
in the B sections of the sprints whilst acting team manager
Dave Swinburne was also a busy athlete,
covering gaps in the 400 metres B race plus the 800 and 1500 metres -
both events in which the club should be doing much better.
Yet again the Appleby brothers scored a big quota of points in the throws.
Paul notched 3rd places in the Hammer (32.75m) and Shot (9.36m)
together with 4th in the Javelin (34.70m)
Brother Steven was 3rd in the B Hammer (21.50m) and 2nd in the B Discus (31.56m)
with Craig Pickup again proving a valuable addition to the squad
with a win in the B section of the Javelin with a throw of 31.10m,
and 3rd places in the B Shot (8.99m) and the B High Jump (1.40m).
Paul Appleby also covered both the 110 and 400 metres Hurdles
to pick up even more points whilst John Woods and Wayne Gedge
also ensured a reasonable points return from the jumping events.
Had more athletes shown the same level of commitment
as those who travelled down to York for the last two meetings,
the club, leading after 2 matches, would have undoubtedly have been promoted.
As it is Morpeth remain in Division 3 for another season - hoping for an input of enthusiasm
from the young athletes who will be old enough for the team next year
or a better attitude from those who were already eligible.

Start Fitness North Eastern Athletics League (6)
The final North Eastern Athletics League meeting of the season
at Gateshead Stadium on Wednesday 10th August, once again
saw a good turnout by Morpeth Harriers in the Under15 Boys age group.
Phil Winkler added to his growing reputation with a win in the 800 metres in 2-08.11
with Ryan Green improving his personal best to 2-12.57 in 5th place.
Elliot Kelly was 6th in 2-15.47 with Jarod Lewis 9th in 2-17.52 (another PB)
and Sam Foster-Beattie 12th with 2-27.04
Alex Nesbitt also did well, finishing 4th in the Long Jump (4.43m)
and 6th overall in the 200 metres in a time of 26.34.
Jarod Lewis also finished 3rd in the 80 metres Hurdles with his time of 16.41 seconds.
Joe Robertshaw was a comfortable winner in the Under 17 section
of the 400 metres in 52.12 whilst Jacob Hopkins set a new
personal best time of 2-30.69 in placing 4th in the Under 13 Boys 800m
In the Senior section Craig Pickup won the Javelin with a throw of 29.96 metres
and placed 2nd in the Shot with a putt of 8.04 metres.
Points gained in those events helped earn Craig 3rd place
in the season long Grand Prix competition.
Mike Hegarty finished 8th overall (fourth Senior)
in the graded 3000 metres race in a time of 9-39.07.
Normally a road and cross country runner,
Mike has been venturing into track competition much more
this summer and it would be good to see more club members following his lead.
Melissa Turner placed 11th overall in the 3000 metres,
her time of 9-53.64 giving her 2nd place in the Senior Womens section,
whilst Alison Brown went close to her best in placing 3rd
in the Under 15 Girls 800 metres in a time of 2-34.77.
The versatile Ria Fairnington was once again prominent in the Under 13 Girls events.
She won both the 200 metres in 30.03 seconds and the High Jump with 1.30 metres,
and went on to place 2nd in the Long Jump with a jump of 3.94 metres.
Ria finished 3rd in the Grand Prix competition - a tremendous performance
as the Wooler-based athlete only joined the Harriers partway through the season
and therefore was only able to compete in three of the six League meetings.
Joe Robertshaw also finished 3rd in the Under 17 Men's Grand Prix,
with Jacob Hopkins placing 5th overall in the Under13 Boys section.

Northern Athletics 10,000mt Championships & Inter-Counties Track & Field Championships !
There was a superb winning debut for Morpeth's Peter Newton in the
Northern Counties 10,000 metres track Championship at Leigh on Saturday 30th July.
Peter had 150 metres to spare over Blackburn's Ben Fish and Tom Cornthwaite who finished 2nd and 3rd,
and his time of 30-09.3 in the hot conditions was faster than anything he'd previously achieved for
the same distance on the road. Michael Dawson also recorded a creditable 32-24.5 for 13th place.
In the Northern Inter-Counties Championship held at the same venue on Saturday,
Joe Robertshaw, representing the North East, placed 3rd in the Under 17 400 metres,
improving his best time yet again to an excellent 50.34 seconds.

Northern League Division 3
It was a frustrating afternoon for the Morpeth Harriers track and field team
in their Northern League match at York on Sunday 3rd July.
Whilst there were some excellent performances from the men's squad,
an abysmal turnout in the women's section has seriously dented the club's promotion chances.
Elaine Telford, the only woman to compete, excelled with an impressive double win in the 100mts (13.1)
and 200mts (26.7), but will need a lot more support in the final League meeting next month.
In the Men's events there was also a sprint double from Alan Selby
with times of 11.7 and 23.5, with Will Driver also winning the B events in 11.6 and 23.8.
Ian Harding was another Morpeth winner on the track,
front running his way to victory in the 5000mts in a time of 15-26.6
whilst 16 year old Jonnie Nisbet was only caught in the final straight of the 1500,
placing second in a new personal best of 4-20.1.
John Woods led most of the way to win the 3000m Steeplechase in 11-30.8
and also picked up valuable points with a second place in the Triple Jump (11.18mts).
However, the most prolific points scorer on the day was Angus Wood
with second place in both the 110m Hurdles and the High Jump
and a win in the B section of the Long Jump the best of his contributions.
Unfortunately the day ended on a sour note for Angus as he pulled
a hamstring in the sprint relay, although he bravely hobbled on
to complete his leg and ensure that the team finished.
Ryan Simpson fully justified his promotion from the Young Athletes' team
with a second place in the Long Jump (5.50mts)
and a win in the B section of the Triple Jump,
plus a useful leg in the 4 x 400mts relay.
Once again the Appleby brothers made a big impact in the throws.
Paul produced an excellent throw of 34.69mts in the Discus
to place second to Scarborough's highly-rated Rob Russell
and was also third in the Hammer (30.10), before making a welcome
return to hurdling with a win in the B section of the 110m Hurdles.
Steven Appleby took third in the Shot (9.12mts)
won the B section of the Hammer and also placed
second in the B Discus with a throw of 30.70mts.
There was also an encouraging debut from Craig Pickup
with second places in the B sections of both the Shot and the Javelin.
Team Manager John Thompson also gained a lot of points (some from quite unfamiliar events,
such as a third place in the 800mts B race) and his assistant,
Dave Swinburne, also made an important contribution despite recently returning from injury.
The team will need more of that sort of spirit, particularly from the Women's section,
in the final match, also at York, on 14th August.
Whilst Scarborough have probably clinched the Divisional title,
second place is still wide open and a good showing from Morpeth
would still bring promotion.
Match Result
1. Scarborough 347pts
2. Wallsend / Blyth 309pts
3. Skyrac 293pts
4. New Marske 231pts
5. Morpeth 208pts

Morpeth Harriers Under 17 sprinter Joe Robertshaw was certainly in sparkling form,
when he created two new personal best performances at the third
Start Fitness sponsored North Eastern Athletics League,
held at Jarrow's Monkton Stadium, on Wednesday 22nd June.
Firstly in the B race of the seeded 100m events, he finished in third place in 12.0s,
which was just fractionally inside his old figures for the distance,
and he was fourth Under 17 Man in the event overall.
However in the 200m, held later, he really excelled,
by winning the B race in 23.8s, which was comfortably
inside his previous best, which made him third Under 17 overall.
Another Morpeth Harrier competing in these events was fellow
Under 17 athlete Henrik Paulsen,
who finished third in the C race of the 100m in 13.2s,
which made him seventh in his age group,
he also excelled however in the 200m,
when he created new figures of 26.8s in winning the C race,
which placed him sixth in the age group on the night.
Under 13 athlete Jacob Hopkins can feel well pleased with his effort in the 1500m,
where he finished third in 5m07.4s, a new personal best.
Morpeth club colleague Sam Williams finished seventh in 5m37.2s.
In the Under 15 Boys 1500m, Phil Winkler was Morpeth Harriers leading finisher,
when he came home in second place in 4m28.2s.
Next home for the club was newcomer Elliot Kelly,
recently signed from North Shields Poly,
and he marked his debut in a Morpeth vest superbly,
by clocking a new personal best of 4m39.5s for eighth place.
The next two places behind him were filled by new clubmates Joe Elder and Ryan Green,
who clocked 4m41.5s and 4m44.0s respectively, the latter being a new personal best.
Andrew Allan clocked 5m03.1s, when finishing in sixteenth spot.
Alison Brown was fractionally outside her personal best,
when finishing fifth in the Under 15 Girls 1500m in 5m24.1s.
Fellow Morpeth Harriers Beth Woolley and Lucy Pargeter
finished sixth and eighth in respective times of 5m55.1s, and 6m38.3s.
In the Under 13 Girls 1500m, Morpeth's Abbie Elliott was fifth in 5m42.4s.
The seeded Mile events, where the A race provided the winner of the Stan Long Cup,
in memory of the legendary Gateshead Harriers coach,
who mentored the legendary Brendan Foster,
and on the night was won by a Gateshead athlete in Adam Carmichael,
saw Morpeth's Michael Dawson finish fourth in 4m28.6s,
which placed him as third Senior Man.
Mike Hegarty of Morpeth Harriers finished eighth in the B race in 4m52.8s.

National Young Athletes League Division 1
Once again Morpeth Harriers Young Athletes delighted their respective
Team Managers by their commitment, when finishing second in their
fourth and final Northern League Division 1 match,
held at Huntington Stadium, near York, on Sunday 19th June.
Only sixty one points separated them from match winners and hosts Harrogate,
with a very much weakened New Marske finishing thirty seven points further behind in third place.
On a very positive front, Morpeth Harriers had excellent performers
in Phillip Winkler, Ryan Green, and Joe Elder from the Under 15 Boys section,
Jonnie Nisbet, Henrick Paulsen, and Daniel Smith from the Under 17 Men,
Jacob Hopkins and Euan Jones from the Under 13 Boys,
Molly McDonald and Alison Brown from the Under 15 Girls,
and Lizzie Rank from the Under 13 Girls,
amongst a number of good supporting efforts across the board to be admired.
When the final league totting up process is completed,
the squad will probably find themselves in either runners up spot cumulatively,
or at worst in third place, for which the entire squad can be justly proud of themselves.

The Northumberland Schools Track and Field Championships,

saw several athletes from Morpeth Harriers produce performances that saw
them through to the forthcoming Inter Area match,
that is the next stone to competing in the prestigious English Schools Championships,
plus a number of personal bests were achieved.
Top performer was undoubtedly East Northumberland sprinter Joe Robertshaw,
who won the Intermediate Boys 400m in a brand new personal best time of 51.6s.

finished second in the Junior Boys 800m in 2m11.3s.
McGregor clocked 2m30.9s when finishing second in the Senior Girls 800m.
After giving his clubs Young Athletes fixture a timely miss on the previous Sunday,
Jonnie Nisbet bounced back to run an excellent 2m05.7s,
when finishing second in the Intermediate Boys 800m.
A superb personal best by six seconds gave Joe Elder
his place at the Inter Area competition, when he finished
second in the Junior Boys 1500m, in a time of 4m38.4s.

if she will claim her place at the Inter Area match,

Northern League Division 3
The clubs Senior Men and Women won their second round
Northern League Division 3 match in Middlesbrough on Saturday 4th June,
by a margin of twenty three points, where once again the Men were dominant
as they took maximum points from eight track events,
including two relays, and won some deserved plaudits
for some very determined field performances.
The Women’s section, which were supported by the turnout of five athletes,
enjoyed five A string victories, which in turn were aided by a handful of B string efforts,
which supported the tremendous effort on the day.
For his own particular section, Morpeth’s Men’s Track and Field Team Manager
John Thompson was very upbeat afterwards, and quipped that with similar efforts
in the forthcoming two matches, the squad may well be in danger
of promotion at the end of the campaign,
as it was confirmed that the victory on the day,
against the other competing squads performances,
had sent them to the top of the table.
Highlights of the Men’s performances were the splendid 100m and 200m victories by Alan Selby,
who is definitely nearing his best form with clockings of 11.2s and 23.0s respectively.
B string victories in these events by Thompson (12.6s)
and Under 17 rising star Joe Robertshaw (24.3s)
added to the Morpeth dominance.
Robertshaw also enjoyed his particular moment of glory,
when he quite convincingly won his favoured event,
the 400m A race, in a time of 53.7s, which given the cold windy
conditions that prevailed on the day, was a superb effort.
Angus Wood, who travels up from his Newmarket base,
to compete for his club, tenaciously won the B race in 65.4s.
Wood also enjoyed later success with victory in the High Jump (1.55m)
plus second places in both the 110m Hurdles (22.1s), and Long Jump (5.07m)
plus a second place in the B string Triple Jump (9.60m)
where in turn he very ably supported a splendid,
and surprise A string victory by John Woods,
whose final effort of 10.91m eased him ahead of
talented Wallsend and Blyth athlete Craig Birch.
Team Manager Thompson once again supported his squad well
by winning the B string Long Jump with a best of 4.56m,
however disappointingly, and somewhat undeservedly,
he was forced to call matters to an end for the day personally,
when ricking his back, on clearing the final obstacle in the
110m Hurdles to win the B string in 26.4s.
Thompson had also earlier finished second
in the 400m Hurdles B string event in 76.9s.
In the Men’s distance events Morpeth Harriers were certainly in dominant form,
as they triumphed in everything bar the Steeplechase.
Fresh from his excellent personal best in the previous weeks Bupa London 10k,
Peter Newton dominated the 5000m from the gun,
as he lapped everyone on the track to take a sweet victory
by a margin of 110 seconds, when he crossed the finish line in 14m44.2s.
The last man he lapped was his own clubmate Gary Jones,
who quite convincingly took the B race in 16m25.4s.
Other Morpeth A string track winners were Matt Nicholson,
and Druridge Bay 10k winner Ian Harding,
who enjoyed success in the 800m (2m01.3s)
and 1500m (4m15.1s) respectively
These two efforts were backed up well by Under 17 athlete Jonny Nisbet,
who won both B events with well earned clockings of 2m08.8s, and 4m29.6s.
The Appleby brothers Paul and Steven were once again reliable and dominant forces in the Throws.
Paul enjoyed a new personal best when finishing second in the A string of the Hammer
with a throw of 30.59m, and Steven finished second in the B string with 19.31m.
The pair went even better in the Discus, where Paul finished second
in the A string with 33.07m, and Steven won the B string with his best of 29.47m.
Paul also enjoyed a B string victory in the Shot with 8.56m,
and Steven’s 8.72m, earned him third place in the A competition.
The Men rounded their day off nicely when Angus Wood, Joe Robertshaw,
Matt Nicholson, and Alan Selby, got round to take the 4x100m relay in 49.3s,
and the combination of Nisbet, Harding, Woods and Nicholson,
pulled off an excellent win in the 4 x 400m relay in 3m56.0s.
In the Women’s track events Morpeth’s Elaine Telford dominated
the 100m and 200m with wins in 12.6s and 26.3s respectively,
and was well backed up in the 100m when Under 20 athlete
Ailsa McGregor took third in the B string with 14.9s.
It was a very busy afternoon for McGregor, as she showed both
her immense talent and appetite for competition by achieving two
of the squads A string victories in the 100m Hurdles (19.3s)
and High Jump (1.33m), and finished third in the A string events
of the 400m (69.8s), and 800m (2m37.0s) events.
In the 400m she was backed up by fellow Under 20 athlete Hannah Rank,
who finished second in the B race in 69.6s, and went on to win the 3000m B race in 11m41.8s.
Maxine Czarneka finished second in the A race of the 3000m in 10m21.8s,
to Scarborough’s former Louise Brown.
More excellent points were gained in the Field by Women’s Team Manager for the day Claire Reid,
who won the Discus with a best of 31.65m, and went on to finish second in both the Hammer (30.17m)
and Shot (9.84m), and added third places in the Javelin (18.59m)
and Long Jump (2.95m) to her tally for a splendid afternoon’s work.
Unfortunately Morpeth could not call further on their five Women athletes,
to mount a challenge in the two available relays.
FINAL MATCH RESULT
1st Morpeth 372pts,
2nd Wallsend & Blyth 349pts,
3rd Skyrac 347.5pts,
4th Scarborough 340pts,
5th New Marske 259pts.

National Young Athletes League Division 1
On Sunday 5th June, Morpeth Harriers Young Athletes took part
in their National Young Athletes League Division 1 match
at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow, against probably their
most formidable opponents in Blaydon & Elswick, and Chester Le Street.
All three clubs had won their two matches so far, and this definitely
promised to be the toughest of the four rounds contested.
This certainly proved to be true; however Blaydon & Elswick
were clearly dominant on the day, as once again they high scored in the match.
It was certainly close between Morpeth Harriers and Chester Le Street
with only a few events remaining, however the Northumbrian club managed
to gain some points over the last few events to maintain
an an albeit slender margin to take second place.
Morpeth managed seven track wins across the age groups on the day
including one of the relays, and five victories in the field
were indeed an added bonus to their competitive tally.
Their best graded performer of the day was undoubtedly Myles Foggon,
who won the Under 15 Boys 200m in 25.2s,
and added an excellent second in the 400m in 57.6s,
just losing out to Blaydon & Elswick’s Chris Milburn.
Philip Winkler claimed an excellent victory in the Under 15 Boys 800m,
where he was just a fraction away from his personal best with 2m12.2s,
and Ryan Green backed him up well in the points stakes by placing third in 2m18.2s.
Winkler refused to rest on his laurels however, and can feel well
pleased with his effort of 5.17m, which saw him take the Long Jump with ease.
The excellent form of Jacob Hopkins continues apace, as he secured
an excellent victory in the Under 13 Boys 800m in 2m38.6s.
Florence Thomson won the Under 13 Girls 70m Hurdles in 15.4s,
and she was backed up well by Lizzie Rank who finished third in 17.0s.
Rank also performed well by winning the High Jump with a best clearance of 1.05m,
where a similar clearance saw Thomson placed third on countback.
This pairing also fared well in the 1200m, with Rank finishing second in 4m48.0s,
and Thomson getting third in 5m01.7s.
Victory in the Under 17 Men’s 200m also saw another positive step
in the right direction for injury victim Jack Hepple,
who in turn clocked a new personal best for the distance,
with his clocking of 24.6s.
Henrik Paulsen finished fourth in this event, in 27.1s.
Paulsen also supported his club well by placing third in the 100m (12.6s)
and went on to finish second in the 400m in 64.5s.
Alison Brown secured an excellent victory in the Under 15 Girls 1500m in 5m32.4s,
and her Morpeth clubmate Charlotte Jewell backed her up well by placing third in 5m49.3s,
actually just missing out for second by a whisker.
Morpeth Harriers other winners on the day were
Ryan Simpson Rebecca Dodds, and Beth Woolley.
Simpson won the Under 17 Men’s Long Jump with a best of 5.41m,
and later added a third in the Triple Jump with 10.66m to his tally.
Dodd’s won the Under 15 Girls Shot with 6.40m, and was well backed
up by Alice Kelly’s 4.61m, which saw her place third.
Second place in the Discus was also secured by Dodds with her best throw of 11.21m,
and Kelly again backed her up well with third place with 10.80m.
Woolley won the Under 15 Girls Javelin with 12.70m,
and had Rosie McDonald backing her up well in second place with 8.93m,
and then went on to take third place in the Long Jump with 3.65m,
and added a track success by placing second in the 75m Hurdles in 15.9s.
In addition to the victories there were some good second places
secured for Morpeth Harriers with the performances by the following
Olivia Priest (11.9s) (Under 13 Girls 75m), and (2.80m) (Under 13 Girls Long Jump,
Ewan Jones (15.8s) (Under 13 Boys 75m Hurdles), and (5m23.2s) (1500m),

courtesy of Kirsty Lang, Alison Brown, and Molly and Rosie McDonald.
They finished in second place in the Under 13 Boys, Under 13 Girls,
and Under 15 Boys relays, in respective times of 61.6s, 65.2s, and 54.6s.
Third place was secured in the Under 15 Boys 4 x 400m relay in 4m15.8s,
courtesy of Joe Elder, Ben Welsh, Ryan Green, and Philip Winkler.
Added to this several of the clubs Young Athletes achieved personal bests in their efforts.
FINAL MATCH RESULT

Five athletes from Morpeth Harriers achieved new personal
bests on another excellent night of Track and Field,
at the second Start Fitness North Eastern Athletics League meeting,
held at Jarrow's Monkton Stadium on Wednesday 25th May.
When finishing third in the 100m seeded event, Joe Robertshaw finished third,
was first Under 17, and clocked a new personal best of 12.1s.
Although he did not quite match up to his best, Robertshaw can also feel
well pleased with his performance in the later held seeded 400m,

and inflicted defeat upon some polished Seniors.
The ever improving Jacob Hopkins also did well by winning

and after two matches, are certainly amongst the contenders for promotion at the end of the season.
The determined squad produced 29 event winners on the day,
and that included six of the nine relay events on

In the Under 13 age groups Carrie Collins got matters off to a superb start
by taking victory in the Girls 70m Hurdles in 15.5s,

with Chelsea Morrison once again well to the fore with victories in the Discus (15.0m)

Birtley's North East Champion Lydia Turner in the 800m in 2m51.2s.
There were some excellent efforts from Morpeth Harriers Under 15 Boys section.

finished third as first B competitor in 25.5s.
Clocking exactly the same time as the winner Christopher Lillico
from Alnwick and Blyth, Robertshaw just missed out
on the nod with his clocking of 12.2s in the 100m.
He was backed up well in this by Henrick Paulsen,
who finished as first B competitor in 13.5s.
Sam Hancox added to his first ever track win in the first match by winning the 3000m in 11m12.7s.

North Eastern Counties Track & Field Championships !
A total of eight medals were won by athletes from Morpeth Harriers
at the first day of the North Eastern Counties Track and Field Championships,
held at Gateshead's International Stadium on Saturday 14th May.
Very windy conditions played havoc with many opportunities for record breaking,
and at the end of the days proceedings only three track records fell, in addition to one field record.
Morpeth's best medal performance came from sprinter Elaine Telford,
who just outpaced Jarrow and Hebburn's Janet Abladey to win the Senior Womens 200m in 27.07s.
Silver Medals came the way of Matt Nicholson and Hannah Rank
in the Senior Mens 1500m and Under 20 Womens 5000m
in respective times of 3m58.04s, and 19m47.38s.
It was Rank's first tackling of a Championship 5000m,
after previously been a Gold medallist in the younger age group 3000m.
Five Bronze medals were won by Philip Winkler, Ailsa McGregor,
Joe Robertshaw, Ross Floyd, and Alison Brown respectively.
Winkler battled well in a tough Under 15 Boys 1500m, to come home in 4m38.41s.
His Morpeth clubmate Ryan Green finished 10th in 4m53.96s.
McGregor clocked 2m24.60s in the Under 20 Womens 800m.
Robertshaw battled hard for his Bronze in the Under 17 Mens 400m,
where he clocked 56.70s, having gone slightly better when finishing second in his heat in 54.56s.
The same can be said for Floyd, who was always in a medal
position in the Senior Mens 5000m, where he clocked 15m28.66s for his Bronze.
David Swinburne finished fourth in 15m58.22s.
Brown took her Bronze in the Under 15 Girls 3000m, where she clocked 12m06.48s.
Other competing Morpeth Harriers who were not medallists were as follows
Jacob Hopkins (Under 13 Boys 1500m Final) (5th) 5m21.92s,
Jonnie Nisbet (Under 17 Mens 1500m Final) (5th) 4m24.55s,
Michael Dawson (Senior Mens 1500m Final) (6th) 4m17.62s,
Daniel Bell (Under 13 Boys 100m Heat 2) (5th) 15.19s,

North Eastern Counties Track and Field Championships Day 2
Day two on Sunday saw athletes from Morpeth Harriers accrue two more medals.
Another Gold Medal came the way of sprinter Elaine Telford,
who won the Senior Womens 100m in 13.05s,
despite a hard push to the line by Jarrow and Hebburn's Janet Abladey.
In the Under 15 Boys 800m, Philip Winkler added a Silver medal
to the Bronze he had won in the 1500m on day one.
He clocked 2m16.06s, which was just outside his personal best recently set at Shildon.
In the same event his clubmate Ryan Green came eighth in the final in 2m26.56s,
however he can take great satisfaction from the fact that he had finished second in his heat,
in front of Winkler, and he had set a brand new personal best of 2m14.46s,
which took a whole fifteen seconds off his previous best.
Jacob Hopkins made great strides over the two days,
and added a fourth in the final of the Under 13 Boys 800m
to his athletics CV, in an excellent 2m35.27s.
Other Morpeth Harriers performances on the second day were
Jonnie Nisbet (Under 17 Mens 800m Heat 10 (4th) 2m07.33s, (Final) (7th) 2m05.18s,

Northern League Division 3 !
The clubs Senior Men and Women finished second in their home
Northern League Division 3 match at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow on Saturday 7th May.
It was indeed a mammoth effort, as in the Mens section they were well covered
by the appearance of fourteen athletes, however their Womens section could only muster a total of four,
which clearly meant that there would be a surrendering of points in some events.
It was clearly decided to play to strengths by Team Managers John Thompson,
David Swinburne, and Gwenda Cavill, and despite some weaknesses,
good performances by all those who took part, brought a very satisfactory result.
After nearly a five year absense from action, mainly due to University studies,
it was a very welcome comeback by sprinter Alan Selby,
who helped himself to an excellent double victory in the 100m (11.5s), and 200m (23.5s).
He was very ably backed up respectively by John Thompson and Under 17 athlete Joe Robertshaw,
who finished third in the B events in 12.7s, and 24.3s, the latter being a new personal best.
Robertshaw was marginally just outside his best, when he placed third in the 400m in 53.5s.
The Mens 800m provided an excellent double win for Morpeth Harriers
with Ross Floyd taking the A race in 2m05.0s, and Jonny Nisbet won the B race in 2m10.2s.
For the first time in his life Jonny Taylor tackled the 3000m Steeplechase,
and pulled off an excellent victory in 8m56.4s, and Morpeth gained more
excellent points with John Woods taking the B event in 11m10.1s.
Yet another Mens double victory came in the 5000m,
with Peter Newton taking the A race (14m44.5s)
and Michael Dawson winning the B race in 15m13.0s.
In the Mens Field events, Angus Wood and John Thompson
achieved wins respectively in the High Jump (1.55m)
Triple Jump B (10.66m), Javelin B (20.53m), and Long Jump B (5.01m)
Wood added to his three victories, with an excellent second in the Long Jump A.
Other good efforts in the Field came from Steven Appleby in the Hammer (20.92m)
Discus (31.41m), and Shot (8.94m), wher he placed third on each occasion,
his enthusiasm was such, that in the case of the Hammer,
he encouraged his Father Bob, a long serving Morpeth Harriers supporter,
official, and former runner, to don his vest, and throw 13.27m to finish third in the B section of the Hammer.
Perhaps encouraged by the excellent efforts of her training partner Alan Selby,
Elaine Telford certainly established herself as the pick of the
Morpeth Harriers Womens Track performers,
when she also achieved a superb sprint double in the 100m (13.1s), and 200m (27.1s)
She was well backed up in the B events by Ailsa McGregor (14.7s)
and Hannah Rank (31.3s), who both finished second respectively.
Claire Reid made her journey down from Scotland to claim two victories,
a second and third in the Discus (34.46m), Shot (10.55m), Hammer (32.17m), and Javelin (16.70m)
FINAL MATCH RESULT (Subject to Scrutiny)
1st Scarborough 365pts,
2nd Morpeth 333pts,
3rd Skyrac 331pts,
4th Wallsend/Blyth 313pts,
